The Prophet’s ﷺ Nobility as Evidence for His Prophethood

The Prophet ﷺ was naturally endowed with noble character from his very creation and original disposition, granted by divine favor and a special providence from Allah.

He ﷺ maintained ties of kinship, showed compassion to the poor and needy, hosted guests, assisted the weak, and relieved the distress of the afflicted with his own hands.

Using His Noble Character as Proof:

At the beginning of the revelation, when the Prophet ﷺ feared for himself, his wife, Khadijah (may Allah be pleased with her), reassured him by citing his character as evidence of goodness. She said:

" Never! By Allah, Allah will never disgrace you. You keep good relations with your kith and kin, help the poor and the destitute, serve your guests generously and assist the deserving calamity-afflicted ones."

Narrated by Al-Bukhari (3) and Muslim (160).

The life of the Prophet ﷺ was the most exemplary, honorable, and filled with the highest virtues of humanity, dignity, and noble character. After Allah appointed and sent him as a Prophet, these virtues flourished and grew to unprecedented heights. They became firmly rooted and widely expansive, setting a unique precedent in human history.

This exemplary life is one of the greatest evidences of his ﷺ Prophethood. Throughout history, there has been no life as full of virtue, perfection, guidance, light, truth, and goodness as the life of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ.

It is unheard of in human history for someone to surpass all others in their society in nobility and virtue while living among them, growing up free from their flaws and shortcomings despite originating from the same environment. It is extraordinary for light to emerge amidst darkness, purity to arise from impurity, or knowledge to stem from ignorance and superstitions—except as part of a divine plan preparing a Prophet for his mission[1] .

The Trustworthiness of the Prophet ﷺ:

The Prophet ﷺ was well-known for his trustworthiness and was the object of people's confidence with their belongings and secrets. Anyone who entrusted him with something found it returned to them faithfully, and those who confided in him always found him reliable.

Before Prophethood, the Quraysh referred to him as "Al-Ameen" (The Trustworthy).

The Truthfulness of the Prophet ﷺ:

The Prophet ﷺ was renowned for his truthfulness, a prominent trait recognized by both his friends and adversaries.

When Allah sent him to all of humanity and commanded him to warn his close relatives, the tribes of Quraysh acknowledged his truthfulness before he even conveyed his message.

Al-Bukhari (4770) and Muslim (208) reported from Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them) that when the verse was revealed:

{ And warn ˹all, starting with˺ your closest relatives,.}

(Surah Ash-Shu'ara: 214)

The Prophet ﷺ ascended Mount Safa and called out to the tribes of Quraysh:

"O Banu Fihr! O Banu Adi!" (addressing the clans of Quraysh). When they gathered, those who couldn't come sent representatives. Abu Lahab and Quraysh came as well. He said:

"If I were to tell you that horsemen were advancing to attack you from the valley, would you believe me?" They said, "Yes, we have never experienced you telling a lie."

He then said:

"I am a warner to you before a severe punishment."

Abu Lahab said, "May you perish! Is this why you gathered us?" Then the verses were revealed:

{ May the hands of Abu Lahab perish, and he ˹himself˺ perish! Neither his wealth nor ˹worldly˺ gains will benefit him.}

(Surah Al-Masad: 1–2)

When Heraclius, the Roman emperor, questioned Abu Sufyan ibn Harb—who was still a polytheist at the time—about the Prophet ﷺ, he asked:

"Did you ever accuse him of lying before he claimed Prophethood?"

Abu Sufyan replied, "No."

Heraclius then said:

"I knew he would not refrain from lying to people and then lie about Allah."

Narrated by Al-Bukhari (7) and Muslim (1773).
